12. Fouls and Misconduct
Fouls and Misconduct are acts committed by players which are deemed by the referee to be unfair and are subsequently penalized. An offense may be a foul, misconduct or both depending on the nature of the offence and circumstances in which it occurs.
13. Free kick
A free kick is a method of restarting play in association with football. It is awarded after an infringement of the laws by the opposing team.
· Direct Free Kick-direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six defense in a manner considered by the referee to be careless ,reckless or using excessive force:
Ø Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent.
Ø Trips or attempts to trip an opponent.
Ø Jumps at an opponent
Ø Charges an opponent
Ø Strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
Ø Pushes an opponent.
A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following four offences.
Ø Tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball.
Ø Holds an opponent.
Ø Spits at an opponent.
Ø Handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper with in his own penalty area).
· Indirect Free Kick
An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a goalkeeper, inside his own penalty area, commits any of the following offence:
Ø Takes more than six seconds while controlling the ball with his hands, before releasing it from his possession.
Ø Touches the ball again with his hands after it has been released from his possession and has not touched any other players.
Ø Touches the ball with his hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him by a teammate.
Ø Touches the ball with his hands after he has received it directly from a throw-in taken by a team mate.
An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player, in the opinion of the referee, commits any of the following three offences:
Ø Plays in a dangerous manner.
Ø Impedes the progress of an opponent.
Ø Prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands.
14. Penalty Kick
A penalty kick is awarded against a team which commits any offence for which a direct kick is awarded, inside its own penalty area and while the ball is in play. The ball is placed on the penalty mark. The defending goalkeeper may remain moving on his goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball has been kicked. The other players remain inside of the playing field but outside the penalty area, behind the penalty mark and at least 10 yards away from the penalty mark.
15. Throw-in
When the ball passes the touch line, the assistant referee signals a throw-in. In such a case the ball is awarded to a player of the team opposite to the one that caused the ball to go out of the bounds for a throw-in from the point from where the ball went out.
A throw-in awarded:
Ø When the whole of the ball passes over the touch line, either on the ground or in the air.
Ø From the point where it crossed the touch line.
Ø To the opponents of the player who last touched the ball.
While throwing-in the ball
Ø Faces the field of play
Ø Has part of each foot on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line.
Ø Use both hands.
Ø Delivers the ball from behind and over his head.
The thrower may not touch the ball again until it has touched another player.
16. Goal Kick
A goal kick is awarded when:
Ø The whole of the ball, having last touched a player of the attacking team, passes over the goal line, either on the ground or in the air and a goal is not scored according to the rule.
Procedure
Ø The ball is kicked from any point within the goal area by a player of the defending team.
Ø Opponents remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play.
Ø The kicker does not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player.
Ø The ball is in play when it is kicked directly beyond the penalty area.
17. Corner Kick
A corner kick is awarded when:
Ø The whole of the ball, having last touched a player of the defending team, passes over the goal line, either on the ground or in the air, and a goal is not scored according to the rule.
Procedure
Ø The ball is placed inside the corner arc at the nearest corner flag post.
Ø The corner flag post is not removed.
Ø Opponents remain at least 10 yards from the ball until it is in play.
Ø The ball is kicked by a player of the attacking team.
Ø The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves.
Ø The kicker does not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player.
