1. It originates from the Polynesian word ‘tabu’ which means ‘to forbid’.

2. In primitive groups there are certain restrictions on behavior which ensure order, stability and solidarity within the group.

3. Taboos are like verbal laws which have three functions- protective, productive and prohibitive.

Superstitions: These religious beliefs that establish connection between disproportionately unrelated events and lead to following of practices blindly and repetitively.
